Abstract
Dehydration in patients at the end of life requires a multi-dimensional approach. Whether a particular treatment is appropriate depends on more than just clinical factors and medical-technical possibilities. Ethical, spiritual and psychosocial aspects also play a role in the decision whether or not to initiate diagnostics and treatment for an individual patient with dehydration. This paper provides an overview of the considerations in decision-making, in line with the new Guideline on Dehydration in the Palliative Phase.
