Abstract
Acute urticaria and anaphylaxis to food (due to food allergy) may occur, but usually other symptoms such as oral allergy and gastrointestinal symptoms predominate. In chronic urticaria, food allergy has to be excluded, but is only rarely the underlying cause. There is very limited evidence to support the efficacy of diagnostic or therapeutic pseudoallergen free diets. If used close follow up is important.
