Successful transplantation of an HPA-1a-positive kidney in a recipient with anti-HPA-1a antibodies

We report a successful transplantation of a kidney from a donor who was positive for the platelet bloodgroup HPA-1a into a HPA-1a-negative recipient with preexisting anti-HPA-1a antibodies. There occurred no thrombocytopenia nor purpura or other adverse effects. This observation suggests that an incompatibility for the HPA-1a alloantigen of platelets and endothelium need not be taken into account for matching of renal allografts.
