Abstract
The studies described in this thesis address the usefulness of different prognostic indicators for in-hospital mortality used in the surgical ICU. Subsequently, we address both short- and long-term outcomes and their prediction, in patients admitted to surgical intensive care units. Concerning short-term outcome, we offer more insight in the effect on mortality of critical care organization differences
