Abstract

New methods of adding temporal constraints to the inverse electroencephalography (EEG) problem for spatially constrained distributed sources are presented and compared to standard minimum norm solution. The first is standard zero-order Tikhonov regularization applied to each time instant separately. The second uses zero-order Tikhonov applied to the spatial eigenfunction of the EEG spike and provides optimal temporal constraints if no a priori knowledge of temporal behavior of the sources is available. The third assumes that all sources have an identical pre-defined wave-shape and amplitude and that they are either switched on at a certain time instant or not. This method showed the best spatial and temporal accuracy because of its nonlinear character.
