Abstract

AMH has previously been shown to reflect the num
-
ber of follicles left in the ovaries and strongly relate
to female age. In initial short term follow up stud
-
ies, AMH has appeared to be the best marker for
ovarian reserve decline. In the present long term
follow up study of 257 normo-ovulatory women,
age specific AMH level has revealed itself further
as an independent predictor for age at menopause.
With correct individual prediction of age at meno
-
pause, ways may be opened for preventive man
-
agement of age related female infertility, since it is
hypothesized that a fixed interval of 10 years exists
between age at infertility and age at menopause.
Moreover, it opens ways for preventive manage
-
ment of other female health conditions related to
menopause timing, like cardiovascular disease, os
-
teoporosis and breast cancer.
