MODELS FOR GENERATION AND PROPAGATION OF THE ALPHA RHYTHM.

Research output: Contribution to journalArticleAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

The alpha rhythm is a stochastic signal characteristic of the electroencephalogram (EEG). Under certain conditions, the frequency spectrum of the EEG has a pronounced peak in the alpha range (8-13 Hz) and several less conspicuous peaks in other frequency regions. The emphasis of this paper is placed upon the relevance of the various models to alpha rhythm generation and propagation. Mathematical models describing interactions of excitatory and inhibitory neurons in relation to electroencephalography are discussed.
