A population-based cohort of 56,929 patients with sporadic melanoma was extracted from PALGA (the Dutch Nationwide Network and Registry of Histopathology and Cytopathology) and the Netherlands Cancer Registry. Ethical approval was granted by the ethical review boards of PALGA and Leiden University Medical Center. Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed.
