Abstract
These days, renal cell carcinoma is preferably treated with (minimally invasive) 'nephron sparing surgery'. Especially in the case of synchronous presentation it is of great importance to monitor and treat the possible postoperative renal failure in collaboration with a nephrologist. In this article, 3 patients with bilateral renal cell carcinoma are described who underwent both a nephrological and urological follow-up for 6-17 years. With these cases and a review of relevant literature we show that cancer-specific survival and functional outcomes in this specific group of patients is better than one would expect, given the severe presentation.
