Abstract

A 37-year-old woman was referred to the dermatology outpatient clinic presenting with since 4 months severe pruritic wheals after sun exposure. Dermatological examination and light tests confirmed the diagnose of solar urticaria. Solar urticaria is a rare type of photo-dermatosis and subtype of chronic induced urticaria with high impact on quality of life. Treatment consists of high dose antihistamines in combination with photo-hardening, however this was insufficient in our case. Subsequent treatment with omalizumab showed a good clinical response which was confirmed by improved photo testing.
