Abstract
Complication at diagnosis in a laryngeal tumor. A women aged 84 presented with hoarseness. Laryngoscopy showed a red supraglottic lesion with a smooth surface, physical examination showed no other abnormalities. The MRI-report did not mention vascular components present in the lesion and brisk bleeding occurred at biopsy. Revision of MRI and biopsy showed the diagnosis venous malformation. Conservative therapy followed. A vascular lesion in the larynx is rare. If such a lesion is expected MRI or CT can be excellent ways to confirm diagnosis. Biopsy should not be used as first diagnostic instrument. Preferred therapy in different types of vascular lesions is not the same.
