Abstract

A discussion is presented of chronic constipation in an infant. A successful course of psychoanalytical play therapy, lasting 85 hours is described in detail. At the beginning of the treatment, the patient was 2 yr 11 mth old. He displayed disturbed psychic development; tendencies to form obsessional neurotic signs were particularly striking. In the report on the treatment, special attention is given to discussion of the psychodynamics and their genesis. In this context, theoretical concepts on the psychic development in the first two years of life, and the literature on this special symptom are discussed.
