Abstract

Family history is still one of the strongest risk factors for breast cancer. An accurate knowledge of the family history is essential for risk assessment and for estimation of the probability of carrying a predisposing gene. In the context of the Geneva Cancer Registry, we started a research project with the aim to develop a population-based familial breast cancer registry. This epidemiological tool will be useful for a better understanding of familial breast cancer occurrence in the Geneva population. Methodology, preliminary results and future development are presented.
