Abstract

The Department of Dermatology and Allergology has a longstanding tradition concerning top-referral patient care and research in atopic dermatitis (AD) in adults and children. For the complex AD patient care, a dedicated team of 3 dermatologists, 2 nurse specialists and 8 special AD trained dermatological nurses is available. By educating dermatologists in training and PhD students (MD) in multidisciplinary AD care, the National Expertise Center of Atopic Dermatitis delivers dermatologists with experience and affinity regarding complex AD care. There is a lot of attention for the atopic co-morbidities and there is an intensive collaboration with the Dutch Patient Society of Atopic Dermatitis (VMCE). The AD research group has grown the last years, partly due to the close collaboration with Laboratory for Translational Immunology (LTI).The very short lines between clinic and research laboratory make it possible to respond very quickly to new developments in the field of AD. This unique collaboration, together with the commitment of young dedicated investigators makes the AD research within the UMCU very sustainable. © 2019, Stichting Beheer Tijdschriften Dermatologie.
