Abstract

Parents often go to their general practitioner (GP), worrying about their child’s functioning or with questions about parenting. Teaching positive strategies to parents is a substantial aspect to prevent mental health problems in children.
The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P Program) is an evidence based intervention, which focuses on teaching parents strategies to handle their children. GPs are trained in this Triple P program to advise and teach these strategies to parents. After participation in a training course, GPs report significant improvements in their consultation skills, they are more satisfied about their consultations and have also more trust in dealing with parents about child breeding difficulties. Also parents report improved parenting capacities.
