Abstract

During recent years, a substantial number of trials has compared once-daily administration of aminoglycosides to more frequent administration. Most once-daily studies have been done in specific adult subgroups, some studies have been done in neonates and only few consider children beyond the neonatal period. Results of studies in adults and neonates are not easy to translate to children beyond the neonatal age because they differ in their pharmacokinetic characteristics. In this paper, we review once-daily dosing in general and studies performed in children. (C) 2000 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
