Abstract
It is likely that the number of HIV infected children and children with AIDS will increase in the Netherlands in the near future. This paper describes the diagnostic procedures available to establish HIV infection in infants and children. A review of the present prophylactic and therapeutic regimens is given. Recent developments indicate that AZT for pregnant seropositive women and their neonates may be useful to reduce the risk of perinatal transmission of HIV.
