Abstract

Adult ocular xanthogranulomatous diseases represent a group of rare conditions that are not completely understood. They include four clinical syndromes which are characterized by solitary or multiple, yellow, sharply circumscribed swellings around the eyes. Histopathologically, they are characterized by a mixed infiltrate of foamy macrophages, Touton giant cells, lymphocytes and plasma cells. Adult-onset xanthogranuloma is the least common subtype and is not associated with any systemic disease. This form is treated bysurgical debulking followed by a course of systemic corticosteroids for 6 months.
