Biography
Michelle Spek graduated in medicine from Maastricht University in 2020. She subsequently started her PhD at the Julius Center, University Medical Center Utrecht, focusing on optimising telephone triage for patients with acute shortness of breath calling out-of-hours primary care under supervision of Frans Rutten, Dorien Zwart, Roderick Venekamp and Esther de Groot. She obtained her PhD on 4 February 2025. She combined her research with the General Practice Vocational Training Programme in Utrecht, which she completed in August 2026. She currently works as a general practitioner and postdoctoral researcher, with her research focusing on telephone triage in out-of-hours primary care.
