    Biography

    Matthew is a Palliative Medicine Physician, GP/Huisarts and Senior Researcher. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Centre of Expertise in Palliative Care Utrecht, Department of General Practice and Nursing Science, UMC Utrecht. His research is focused on better integration of primary and informal care at the end of life. He is involved in a broad array of research projects collaborating with researchers throughout the Netherlands, Europe, and Australia. Matthew is the co-chair of the Primary Palliative Care reference group for European Association of Palliative Care.

    After completing his training as a GP in Australia (2014), Matthew embarked on a further three year specialisation as a Palliative Medicine Physician (2016) in Melbourne. After finishing this training he worked at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne as a staff specialist, combining this with research. He continues this clinical work in the Netherlands, as a Palliative Medicine Physician and GP.

    In 2020, he began working at the Julius Centre for Health Sciences and Primary Care. Matt continues to be involved in post-graduate education and development for the University of Melbourne, Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and Utrecht University. He has served on numerous advisory and steering commitees, including the scientific board of the Primary Care Collaborative Clinical Trials Group (2014-2020), the Australian Digital Health Agency (2018-2023), and The Australian Goals of Care Committee (2020-2022).
