Biography

dr. Malin Overmars (1995) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Central Diagnostic Laboratory of the University Medical Center Utrecht. She studied Communication and Information Sciences (BA) at the University of Groningen and Data Science (MSc) at Tilburg University. She obtained her PhD in 2024. During her PhD she studied the (re)use of big data, particularly routinely collected healthcare data, for a personalized understanding of cardiovascular disease. She employed several data science techniques such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing and network analysis to analyse this data.

Her current research focuses on improving diagnostics using data science to further personalize cardiovascular healthcare. She particularly enjoys working in multidisciplinary teams to address cardiovascular problems, combining her expertise in Data Science and Communication and Information Sciences to effectively present complex data in an effective and understandable way for a wide range of clinical professionals.
