Personal profile

Research interests

I am an pediatric anesthesiologist and clinical scientist with special interest and skills in pediatric cardiac anesthesia. I followed my postgraduate training in anesthesiology at UMC Utrecht till June 2016 during which I completed a postgraduate master in Clinical Epidemiology (Utrecht University, 2016) and obtained my PhD under supervision of Prof. Dr C. (Cor) J. Kalkman on the subject “Monitoring vital instability outside high care facilities” in February 2017. I completed an honorary fellowship in pediatric cardiac anesthesia at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Hereafter, I started working as a consultant anesthesiologist at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht and started a research trajectory in pediatric anesthesia. I am very passionate about performing high quality clinical research to enhance our understanding of circulation and circulatory management in pediatric (cardiac) anesthesia. My goal is to improve perioperative circulatory care in newborns who need life-saving surgery. We need to avoid the unacceptably high risk of brain injury and neurocognitive delays after neonatal surgery. To tackle these challenges, I collaborate with fellow researchers from the LifeSpan consortium (within the Child Health program UMCU) and researchers abroad (Zurich, Melbourne, Brisbane and Chicago) to build a research network. I enjoy being part of the multidisciplinary medical - and research team in the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital and I love to share my passion and drive with my fellow team members and research interns.
