    Biography

    Judith Anne Rolanda van Waes obtained her Medical Doctor degree at the Utrecht University in 2008. Subsequently, she started as a resident in Anesthesiology at the University Medical Center Utrecht.  She combined her residency with a PhD track about postoperative monitoring of cardiac complications, and obtained her Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology in 2013. After her specialty training in Anesthesiology, she did a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia in 2017.
    Currently, Judith works as an anesthesiologist and clinical researcher at the University Medical Center Utrecht. In clinical care her focus is on major noncardiac surgical procedures and perioperative care for high risk patients.

    Research interests

    Judith's research focuses on the prevention and management of perioperative cardiovascular complications. Her goal is to investigate strategies that improve outcome in surgical patients who are at high risk of such complications, in order to enable clinicians to provide the best care for individual patients. In this, she aims to link research and clinical care together. Currently, her main projects are about the detection and management of perioperative myocardial injury, and about perioperative management of angiotensin inhibitors.
