Decoding Protein Variation in Health and Disease

Proteins are the functional molecules that drive most biological processes. Their abundance, composition, and activity determine how cells function in health and how they fail in disease.

Our research develops advanced proteomics technologies to understand how protein variation shapes cellular function in health and disease. A particular focus of the lab is understanding cellular heterogeneity in and around tumours and how this diversity influences disease progression and treatment response. By combining molecular biology with methodological innovations in quantitative, single-cell, and spatial proteomics, we aim to uncover disease mechanisms, including those governing protein synthesis, translational fidelity, and ribosome function. Through close collaborations across CMM and UMC Utrecht, we bridge technology development with fundamental and translational biomedical research.
