Biography
Geert Kops is groepsleider bij het Hubrecht Institute, hoogleraar Moleculaire Tumorcelbiologie bij het Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, en wetenschappelijk directeur van het Oncode Instituut. Zijn groep is geïnteresseerd in de processen die zorgen voor een goede chromosoomverdeling tijdens de celdeling. Fouten in dat proces kunnen de oorzaak zijn van aangeboren afwijkingen, miskramen en aneuploïdie: de meest voorkomende genetische verandering in tumoren. De Kops groep bestudeert de signaleringsnetwerken die zorgen voor het reguleren van de chromosoomverdeling, het proces van celdeling en de rol van chromosomale instabiliteit bij kanker.
