Biography
Ferry Hagen is Senior Clinical Microbiologist at University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands and guest researcher at the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute (WI-KNAW), Utrecht. In 2011 he received his PhD degree from the Utrecht University, and directly thereafter he started with a traineeship at the Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) to become medical molecular microbiologist. From 2017-2025 he headed the Department of Medical Mycology at WI-KNAW. Since 2022 he is appointed as special chair professor ‘Fungal Functional Diversity’ at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics at the University of Amsterdam. The molecular epidemiology, molecular diagnostics and genomics of emerging and novel antimicrobial resistant fungal pathogens are his main interests. He is co-founder of the Young ISHAM, treasurer of the Netherlands Society for Medical Mycology, and member of the Editorial Board of Clinical Microbiology Reviews and Medical Mycology.
