Biography

Chris van Lieshout is assistant professor at the department of Epidemiology and Health Economics at the Julius Center, University Medical Center Utrecht. He specializes in Economic Evaluations in Oncology and Early Health Economic Analyses. In April 2025 he defended his doctoral thesis in Health Economics titled: “Improve Fast, Improve Cheap; Early Health Economic Analyses During Innovation Development”.

Chris completed his Master of Sciences in Health Sciences at the University of Twente. He conducted research for his Master Thesis at the Netherlands Cancer Institute Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (NKI-AVL) in Amsterdam focusing on the health economic evaluation of HIPEC added to cytoreductive surgery in patients with state III ovarian cancer.

Currently Chris’ research focusses on the methodology of early health economic analyses alongside early phase adaptive trials within Oncode Accelerator. One of the objectives is to investigate to what extent early phase clinical trial design impacts the economic evaluation of new medicines. Next to his work at Oncode Accelerator, he is involved in several health economic evaluation projects in oncology and continues to explore new possibilities for health economics projects and collaborations in oncology.
