The biofabricated liver: A joint effort for personalized medicine and drug development

Activity: OtherTypes of Public engagement and outreach - Media article or participation

Description

Dr. Bart Spee and his colleagues are the first scientists to combine the organoid culturing technique with 3D-bioprinting. Their research aims to develop biofabricated liver constructs to predict hepatoxicity and drug treatment efficacy. Besides being pioneers in combining these specific techniques, they also provide a great example of team effort: multiple organizations all play their part in providing expertise in this multidisciplinary research project. In January 2016, the 3Rs-Centre ULS already published an interview with Dr. Spee about the development of this model. Now, exactly 3 years later, we return to ask him about the progress that has been made.
