Description

Dr. van Royen-Kerkhof recently published an important research paper, "Endothelial and Inflammation Biomarker Profiles at Diagnosis Reflecting Clinical Heterogeneity and Serving as a Prognostic Tool for Treatment Response in Two Independent Cohorts of Patients With Juvenile Dermatomyositis." This paper details a Cure JM-funded study that aimed to define "immune-fingerprints" that can predict clinical outcomes and responses to therapy in chronic inflammatory diseases, such as juvenile dermatomyositis.

What does this study mean for your child?
In the next five years, Dr. van Royen-Kerkhof and her team hope to design an individual treatment plan for every child with JDM based on information about the child's disease activity at time of diagnosis, skin scores, autoantibodies and biomarkers.
They hope the individual plans will improve clinical outcomes and minimize overtreatment of JDM patients.
