Description
The Netherlands SMA center is the national referral center for both children and adults with Spinal Muscular Atrophy in the Netherlands and is localized at the University Medical Center Utrecht. All curative therapies and clinical trials available for Dutch patients are coordinated and conducted from this center. A large multidisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers work closely together to provide optimal care to patients according to the international standards of care. Specialized pediatric physiotherapists and physiotherapists play an important role in the assessment and treatment of patients in the context of clinical care, scientific research, and clinical trials. This requires up-to-date knowledge on the pathophysiological background, the clinical variability, important domains of physical impairment such muscle weakness, fatigability, contractures and respiratory insufficiency, treatment outcome and validated scales to quantify the level of these impairments at different ages. With the advent of effective treatment strategies, it is now more important than ever to translate this knowledge and skills into optimal physiotherapeutic interventions to optimize the effect of therapies. Together with a multidisciplinary team of experts we intend to enhance the knowledge and understanding of physiotherapists and other health care providers in the clinical decision-making and treatment of patients with SMA. This in-person 2,5-day training will include educational lectures and break-out sessions including clinical case discussions. At the end of this training, participants will have a better understanding of how to use the current advances in treatment to apply the most effective physiotherapeutic treatment and optimize clinical care.| Period | 8 Feb 2023 → 10 Feb 2023 |
